My go-to medium is often watercolor. I love its transparency, luminescence. versatility, and you can't beat it for easy clean up. But I also love playing with all different types of media, from drawing & painting to fiber to printmaking to digital art.
Small and beautiful moments unfold around us each day. Whether it's the dappled light in a patch of leaves, the quirky motion of a toddler's walk or the juxtaposition of a rosebud on an asphalt surface, art is all around us.
My own work has improved tremendously with practice, so I draw every day, even if it's only for a few minutes. Play allows me to discover, and practice allows me to produce.
This sketch and color study show the first steps of a larger, in-process piece.
Online process videos always pique my curiosity. So I tried it too - 6 hours of painting/drying time compressed into 3 minutes.
Having the camera rolling changed the way I worked - I found I painted faster and felt more anxious. But I confess, I do really enjoy watching (and rewatching) the "quick" evolution of the painting itself.
